Classical Network Synthesis Revisited

چکیده

The talk consists of four parts. In the first part, the motivation is explained for revisiting certain questions in circuit theory, in particular, the synthesis theory of “one-port” (i.e. with a pair of external driving terminals) RLC networks and the questions of minimality associated with the Bott-Duffin procedure. The motivation relates to the synthesis of passive mechanical impedances and the need for a new ideal modelling element the “inerter” [6]. The development of the inerter from a mathematical concept and ideal modelling element through to its adoption as a standard component in Formula One racing and beyond is described [2]. In the second part, classical results from electrical circuit synthesis are reviewed including the procedures of Foster, Cauer, Brune, Darlington, Bott and Duffin. The reactance theorem of Foster [3] for lossless networks and the Bott-Duffin construction [1] for arbitrary positive-real functions are highlighted. In the third part, the concept of regular positive-real functions is described. A positivereal function Z(s) is defined to be regular if the smallest value of Re (Z(jω)) or Re ( Z−1(jω) ) occurs at ω = 0 or ω = ∞. It is shown how the concept can aid the classification of lowcomplexity networks [4]. The fourth part describes recent work and new results on network synthesis [5].

Coupler-curve synthesis via multi-objective optimisation using NSGA-II

This paper presents a study of a classical mechanism synthesis problem in the framework of multi-objective optimisation. In addition to the primary kinematic objective of reducing the structural error, staying away from the singular configurations is considered as a secondary objective. Two wellstudied coupler-curve synthesis problems reported in existing literature are revisited for the purpos...

Low Noise Constant-input Limit Cycle-free Second Order Digital Filters

In this paper, a constant-input limit cycle-free second-order digital filter section that appeared in the literature in 1986 is revisited. It is studied how its relative output roundoff-noise variance depends on a free parameter used in the network synthesis. Details on the synthesis procedure and an output noise analysis for that structure are here addressed. A graphical study is presented, an...

2,4,6-Triphenylphosphinine and 2,4,6-triphenylposphabarrelene revisited: synthesis, reactivity and coordination chemistry.

The synthesis of 2,4,6-triphenylphosphinine has been revisited and a general protocol for the preparation of such low-coordinate phosphorus compounds in good to excellent yields could be established. This allows to investigate several aspects of the chemistry of 2,4,6-triarylphosphinine, such as the reaction with in situ generated benzyne to give 2,4,6-triphenylphosphabarrelene. The correspondi...

Negative Feedback Revisited

Rules are derived for choosing one among the four kinds of basic amplifiers to be embedded in a particular passive feedback network. The loop transmission is identified and conditions for mismatch are obtained from a unified analysis of feedback circuits. Past experience gained with voltage mode basic amplifiers, the laws of duality and mismatch are applied to choose the building blocks employe...

Trade Networks and the Kantian Peace

Classical-liberal arguments about the pacifying effects of international trade are revisited, and it is argued that they consistently rely on the ability of trade to provide ‘connections’ between people and to create a perceived ‘global community’. The classical-liberal view on trade and peace can be given natural expression and be further developed if it placed in a network perspective. Depend...
